January 2023 Topic: How am I leaving the world a better place than when I came into it?
By Julie Rose, Paralegal, Officiant, and Candle Maker
Before I was a Paralegal, I was a mom.
I raised two daughters who’ve grown up to be wonderful human beings. They’re my best friends. I’m very proud of the strong women they’ve become. I can truly say, if I leave nothing else in this world, it is a better place just because they’re in it.
I’m also a grandma. They call me Nana.
My granddaughter is 11 going on 30 and my grandson is 3 and smart as a whip. When they were born, I swear they took a piece of my heart. When they’re hurting, I hurt. When they’re happy, I’m happy. I don’t know how it happened, but we have a very strong connection. I never knew I could love another person as much as I love them.
They’re learning to be good people, and I am very confident that they will be because they already are. They’re kind, compassionate, and generous. Equally important, they are critical thinkers. They don’t just believe whatever someone tells them without thinking about whether it makes sense or not. I like to think that I have something to do with that and not just genetically. I spend a lot of time with them. My granddaughter… not as much anymore… now she wants to be with her friends. My grandson starts school in September, so I’ll be seeing less of him as well.
When they’re grown up and out on their own my grandchildren and other people’s grandchildren will be running this place, this planet we call home. I’m confident that they will be a positive contribution to society.
These people, my family, are my legacy.
